One easy thing you can do is crawl under and un hook the Pre Cat O2 sensor. If the cat is clogged which happens alot on these taking the O2 sensor out will let out enough exhaust to run the engine. Mine barely idled when my cat went out and if you gave it any gas it choked out.

sounds like the pump to me... check the fuel pump relay (swap it with another relay, they are the same) and the fuel pump fuse, both should be in the fuse box. if you have to swap it out, it's easy... there is a diy writeup in the diy forum, have a look. your problem may be getting the fuel out of the tank.

If the timing chaing broke, the truck would just crank and crank, correct? My truck fires, but only runs for a second. It just dies right out.

you're right, I misunderstood, I'll shut up. I had another 5.2 that the chain jumped time and the motor would crank and almost start but then stopped. But I agree that it sounds like the pump.

If you can get a helper you can sometimes crawl under the truck and tap on the fuel tank while someone is cranking on it. Jarring the fuel pump around will sometimes make it go ahead and kick on, just don't shut it off until you are home, that way you can atleast work on it at your place.

Ya if you cant hear your pump, then I would really look into that. I know I can hear mine very distinctively.

Yea i beleive its my pump now. I was at class today, but had a buddy that owns a service shop look at it. He said the pump was shot. I checked the relays and fuses last night which is why i just brought it there. Now i gotta get home, get the truck to my garage, and have a good time dropping the fuel tank. Thanks tho guys.

I know I have done it both ways, usually my deciding factor on whether to drop it or to pull the bed is how much gas is in the tank. Dropping it is pretty much the only way to go if you are doing it by yourself, unless you had one of those cradles that you hook up to an engine hoist to pick the bed up.

I dropped the tank in my 99 last week, took me 30 min. I used 2 floor jacks so I could lower it evenly a few inches, uplugged everything then dropped it down. I had less than 1/4 tank of fuel, and it was still akward to get back up on the jacks though. The hardest part was removing the straps. SOAK the nuts with PB Blaster before you start.

Well it sucks because the tank is full. However, my brake line burst behind the tank about a month ago and i dropped the tank halfway to get my hands behind it to change the lines, so the straps will come right off with out a problem. One last question for you guys.. I can order a pump from Lakeland Autoparts for about 215 my cost. From dodge it lists for 425, and would cost me about 375. Any suggestions to whether i should go with the Dodge pump, or go with the auto parts store pump?
