Help! My Ram Died??
I stopped into the foodstore to pick up some steaks to throw on the grill, and it was running perfect. I came out of the store, started it, and it idled very rough, at about 3- 400 rpms.. than died. After that it wouldn't start at all.. It would kick over like it wanted to start, and die right out. Any ideas? Any help would be great? The only idea i could really think of was that my fuel pump died.
I doubt its the t chain, thats a pretty severe thing to think just because the engine won't run, but it could happen
Start with the basics. When was the last tune up? Wires, spark plugs, cap, rotor? Could be having spark problems.
could also be the fuel pump now giving enough presure as you say. How many miles are on it?
Could very well be the IAC too if it just won't idle. If you give it gas does it run?

The fuel pump is a good thing to look at for a truck that was running fine and then would'n run at all. Also, don't forget the fuel filter; I know a lot of people that have wasted money on pump when the problem was a $5 filter. One more thing to try is to disconnect the battery and reset the computer. It could be a computer issue, not likely but sure is an easy fix if it is!
Coil is also a good one to check. Crankshaft position sensor could theough timming off if it's having problems.

I just went down to it to grab a few things out of it for school tomorrow, and tried starting it. Not it just cranks and will not fire at all, which makes me think its the fuel pump. When i turn the key on, i dont hear the fuel pump kicking on, and earlier when it would run rough, perhaps it was only running on the gas in the lines, and now has no pressure, so will not start at all now. Now my next question is in the 99' ram, its got a 5.9, is the fuel pump in the tank on this truck or on the frame? I havn't gotten a chance to look at it, and will hopefully have a few hours free tomorrow afternoon between classes. Figures it would break about 5 miles after i fill the tank lol. Thanks for your help though guys!
Here is a link for the 01 Service Manual, I am new to these, but as far as I know they are the same (someone may confirm that for us). http://www.neonix.org/nero/files/2001ramsrvcmanual.zip (Link is from this post: https://dodgeforum.com/m_340929/tm.htm)
If they are the same then both the filter and the pump sit in the top of the tank. There are actually two filters, one is on the bottom of the pump unit (in the tank), the other is on top and is part of the regulator. If the pump isn't running, check for power to it (with the key on); if you have it and it is not running, then the pump is the issue. I would make sure new filters come with the pump (they may not). If they don't you might want to consider buying those to change them while you have the tank down.
