Can an inline fuel filter be installed on a 97 Ram?
I have a 97 Ran, 4X4, 5.9.
I just finished removing and cleaning the fuel injectors. I had a code P0305, which is misfire in cylinder # 5.
This injector was full of sediment.. I thought I would install a new fuel filter to help prevent this.
Well, the fuel filter is part of the fuel pump and this involves dropping the tank or removing the bed.
An inline fuel filter would be much easier. I can't find anyone offering a kit for this.
Does this fuel system not lend itself to an inline?
Thanks,
Clava

I don't know why you would have and trouble installing one. I think VWandDodge was planning on doing something along those lines. I think anything like that would have to be a custom job though, so I wouldn't expect to find a kit.
Therre should be generic kits are most parts stores that would fit right into the line somewhere. Thats how alot of cars are, bolt right to the frma in the middle of the line.
Replace your fuel pressure regulator. I guarantee it is clogged. Check out my second engine thread, and on Page 2 you will see what my pressure regulator looked like when it was cut open.
I don't really know the answer to your question, but keep in mind that these systems have higher pressure than older carb'ed vehicles that you might be used to. I think pressure is something like 50 psi? Make sure your filter and clamps, etc are strong enough for that. You don't want to be spraying gas at 50 psi all over your truck!
