That's what it RATED at ... I know I've exceeded that number a couple of times. Probably close to 1200 lbs at one time. 800 in the bed and 400 lbs of driver, kids and gas.
just wonderin cuz about a week ago i had a hair over 2,000 pounds in the bed (rocks), my dad and i in teh cab (~400lbs) and a low tank of gas..... so now i guess i realize that was a bit much.
Loaded over 3000 lbs(gravel) in my old man's '80 dodge 1/2 ton. Bent the right over so they were bending up. Took about a year but we ended up with 3/4 ton springs in it when they finally broke.
yeah.. i have a u-joint on hand just in case.. but if you've seen that video of my truck i posted awhile back you should know that u-joint aint bad lol
mines fine...... still drives perfectly.... it sagged a helluva lot that day, (thought abotu takin a picture, didnt) but its fine..... im proud of it. i just was sittin here lookin at the reciept from the rock quarry and it shows my before/after weigh in on teh scales and i just now realized how much it was, haha.
I guess I've always used my truck for what a truck is supposed to be used for "HAULIN STUFF". I frequently put 2000 lbs gravel/dirt/lumber/feed/whatever in the back and go merrily on my way. I only drive it like I stole it when it's empty. Hauling a load or pulling a trailer I just take it easy. Never a problem with any truck I've ever owned and I'm on number 4 now.
