Default Dodge Or a Ford?

Well i have come to a dilemma. My dad has a 01' F-150 Super Crew (4 full doors) with 100k on it, 5.4 triton, Fully loaded with every option. The trucks in great condition. I can buy it from him if i get rid of the dodge. Mine's a 99 with 111K on it. I love my truck, But i know that ford is worth a decent penny more than my truck, and i got to admit, it is nice to drive besides that horrible seatbelt warning buzzer. Anyone know anything about the fords? I'm not really a ford guy, but a good deal is a good deal. I can buy that truck for about 9500, and the kelly blue book is about 15 for private party. I'd have to get rid of the dodge though.

Really that would be up to you, my experience with late model Ford trucks isn't good. I see them from a mechanical point of view though and I am biased to vehicles that are easy to work on. I love my Dodge for that reason, especially since it doesn't have an EGR valve and that is the biggest problem I have seen with Fords. The older ones will run forever, but the new ones are just a pain the *** to work on. I was never too impressed with the power from 5.4's either, I am pretty sure my 5.2 could smoke most any 5.4 that wanted to race. From a comfort standpoint I like the Ford interior better but I am willing to compromise that because I will have my truck for a while yet and I know I will have to work on it.

I will tell you like I tell most anybody who asks me this question. Take a walk through some of the junk yards and used car lots in your area. You will find fords and chevy's every wherebut you won't find very many dodges. I know here in west tennessee where I am at if you call a junkyard looking for a part they will usualy laugh at you. Why do you think that is? People that have them know they are a good vehicle and usualy keep them for a very long time because they are easy to work on. All vehicles have their problems you can't get around that, but you have to decide what is best for you.

I picked the Dodge over the Ford and Chevrolet models because, 1) the Dodge has a better safety record is collisions, 2) the Dodge mechanical issues are fewer/easier/cheaper to repair, and 3) the Dodge has more towing capacity and torque.

My company vehicle is a 2001 Ford extended cab. I have over 235,000 miles on it. The Triton V-8's have a problem with blowing spark plugs out of the head. Ford won't acknowledge the problem. The dealership will try to sell you either a new head or a new engine. It will eventually happen. I made it over 200,000 before it happened to me. Lots of folks have it happen near 100,000. Do a search on the internet. You will find a lot of information.

That being said; I'm still on my original starter, alternater, water pump, fuel pump, etc. Can't think of any major problems other than the spark plug.

By the way, the 5.4 seems to have more power than the 5.2 in my 97 dodge extended cab.

Well i do have to admit that i like the look of my truck much better, inside and out. And my 5.9 is def faster and more powerful. The interior is nice in the ford though. Especially with the supercrew. i sat in the back and was perfectly comfortable with the front seats back. I guess its just somthing i gota think about. I've been driving it for the past couple days being i had my truck up at the shop waiting for me to put a fuel pump in it. Well thanks for the info. I'll have to make up my mind. I do like the dodge though! Well have a good evening fellas!

i'd stay away from the ford... pop the hood and have a look at what you'd have to deal with.

Take everything here with a grain of salt... it is a Dodge forum after all.

That said, just go with whichever you like more. Both can tow approximately the same, both have approximately the same power (assuming you have the 5.2), and both are reasonably reliable. We bring up Ford's problem areas as reasons not to have them, well Dodge has some problems too. Did those problems keep me from buying my Dodge pickup? No.. in fact I love my truck and wouldn't trade it (except for a 2500 CTD)

I guess what I'm getting at is why are you asking us to tell you which to get? Drive the truck you want. Besides, do you really think a Dodge based forum is going to tell you to sell your Dodge for a Ford? Seriously?

I am by far no Ford expert but a close freind of mine was killed about 2 months ago in an 01 ford F-250 super crew. He was going over this hill with a really sharp turn and no one really knows what happened from there but you can't take this hill more than 35-40 mph. Anyway he hit two trees no bigger around that a goal post (actually quite a bit smaller). He hit them only about headlight deep and it took the A pillar a pushed it straight up in the air and took the brake pedal and put it in the seat in between his legs. The floor board was up to the dash and the steering wheel was in the roof. I will never own a ford no matter how much torque or horsepower they come out with after seeing his truck. But hey thats just one guy and one accident. You will still have to make the decision yourself.
