mud terian or all terian
I love my Xterrains!!!!!! they have Xcellent road manners, they have a ight hum o the road, not too loud though, hardly noticable, I like it. They wear very well. Then there's their off road performance. I used to ride Bridgestone Dueller A/T, I used to loose all sort of traction and have to use four wheel drive in areas now where that is not even a second though. I just drive. Holy cow these tires perform. Right now I think ProComp tires is in their yearly buy three get on free season too. They do it every year.
heres what i have found....mud terrains are the best off-road, but the worst on the road, all-terrains are ok on-road and ok-off road, highway tires are good on-road, and bad off-road. If you want a large tire, that you can take off-road once in a while, go ahead and get some ATs since they generally handle better than MTs on-road. If you go off-road semi regularly, then get MTs, they will save you a lot of frustration when you are off-road.
i have 2 sets, i have some wrangler MTRs, which only go on the truck when i know im heading to the trail, i also have some cooper Discovers on the truck all the time, unless off-road. teh coopers are great in the snow and rain and dry, since i got the milder AT version (more highway like), the MTRs are loud, and handle good in wet, terrible in snow and not so good on dry, and they wear pretty fast comparatively, but you cant beat them for a trail/mud tire.
it all depends on what you want to do. and typically, when you go up in size on your tires, like from a 265/75 to a 315/75 (~32-35) you will notice the truck handles a little better under normal driving, no matter the tire. if you are flying around corners, well its worse cuz youre higher up. Good Luck to , let us know with what you decide to go with!
PS, at 4wheelparts.com, procomps are buy 3 get 1 free....they are great tires too

I love my 35/12.5/15 Pro-Comp M/T's, with the siping they are a little quieter than many M/T's and handle well on the road, this will be my first winter with them though. they've been ok in the rain for a m/t, I have alo had Bridgestone Dueller M/Ts and they were horrible in the rain but good in the mud (of course). In the mud and any off road they are awesome, they keep digging until the axles are finnaly stuck several inches in the mud. I've had excellent luck with the BFG a/t's in the snow. I also got these tires when they had the buy 3 get 1 free sale, I spent $530 through Summit.
without reading all the posts above because im tired as **** and i gotta get to bed.. but throwing in my $1.23 ($1.21 for inflation)
im running the nitto terra grapplers for a few K right now..(id say ,,,rouding up,,5K) wearing a wee bit quick i must say..and dont do anything for me in the mud .. they are an awesome road tire..and handle great,,even in the rain.. (waiting to try them in decent snow) my buddies at school always ask me if im gonna run mud this weekend (every friggen weekend) and i tell them no b/c them A/T's arnt gonna do a whole lot for me.. for the price and how fast they are wearing.. i would have gonna the mud grapps and would have atleast enjoyed some half way decent offroad/mud runs instead of watching on the side lines and point and laffin at the fools running A/T's in sponsered mud runs.. anyway.. nitto is a good brand and reasonably priced..but now since i have 16's instead of the 17' rims,, ill be looking at some mudders for the next round of tires.. they tend to run cheeper for the smaller 16 rim .. assuming b/c they are more popular.. case in point.. i would have paid almost 200 more for the same tire i have now (315/75/R16) if i orderd them in 17's .. but since i went to 16's i paid a considerable amount less.. and 16's look cooler..and by the time (hopefully) new tire time rolls around the 2gen will be paid for and ill be cruizin in a CTD and then i can just got some friggen boggers or something..
i love the BFG M/T's... but i also love the look of the nitto mudd grapps .. i will be torn in my next decision..
anyway.. if you do any amount of mudding or offroading..or plan on doing any.. id go with some mudds... and besides.. they look cooler anyway

the only thing all terrains do is try to compromise road and off road tires, and what they come up with is horrible in the mud and horrible on the road
get the mudder you wont regret it
