Usually you'll smell anti-freeze when the vent is on, and the smell will leave you perplexed as to why you are smelling anti-freeze. That's the indicator that the core is going out.

Maybe you should watch the road first and just keep the vents in the back of your mind....?

I'm just curious as to how do you know when your heater core is shot ?
Besides the obvious smell of coolant in the cab ... you'll probably see some leaking from the lower vent (the one beside the hump).

When it's leakin or heading that way you get a sweet almost donut smell. No kiddin'
