Default manualy locking tq converter

I was running all over the net the other night (cause I have no life) and stumbled across this article http://www.4x4wire.com/dodge/tech/tc_lockup/

Is there any reason that this shouldn't work on our trucks. What do you think the negative effects could be if any. I realy don't wanna blow my tranny up playing with it.

if you go to http://www.atsdiesel.com/ATSWebsite/.../Commander.asp they have a controller to overide the lockup. it's intended for a diesel but I dont think tranny's know if it's a diesel or a gas motor in front of it. have a look. also there are ones from BD-Power.com, suncoastconverters.com... have a look.

It works, BUT.....the one time you forget to turn the switch off when coming to a stop,......and the BAM.....something breaks.

The ATS Commander/Co-pilot is what you need.

Good luck.

you could easliy wire it up to auto switch on and off with a relay running off the brake pedal switch.

ie: if the brakes come on (depress the pedal) the relay removes power from the switch and tranfser it back to the pcm to control the lock up.. basically using a relay to override the switches input.. beutifull things normally closed normally opend posts can do

I just finished installing my switch panel and switches. I should hopefully have some pictures up tomorow if I can get my hands on a digital camera. I took the truck around the block and this mod does work. As for performance gains I am gonna have to play with it some and hopefully I won't blow up my tranny. On a side note this will throw 2 tranny code for the tq converter.

Good luck friend. Can I ask what's the minimum speed to lock it up at? And this mod prevents the tranny from doing something else, doesn't it? Like it won't downshift? It's something, maybe not that.lol.

I'd say minumum speed would probubly be like 5 mph or 2000 rpms. I don't think I would want to lock it any lower than that. I maiinly just installed it because I Was bored and needed something to do. The only time I will probubly use it is while racing so I know the tqc locks up as soon as I leave the line.
