nope not necessary. MSD's are recommended, the super condutor 8.5's are the bomb!

Just to build off that a little, I like my Accel 8.8's too. If you get them get the black ones not the yellow Superstocks they aren't very good IMO.

Alright, thanks for the reply so quick. I've some 10mm silicones from one of my buddies that sold his ram before he got to put em on. I'll get some pics up on here soon of my 96 5.9.

Are the Accels ready to install or do they need to be custom fitted? Also, anyone running Thundervolts?

I just replaced mine (yesterday!) with Bosch Ultra-Premium 7mm Opti-Layer Mag Core wires because they were the Autozone recommended replacements. Everyone seems to be recommending thicker wires... Has anyone seen arcing through the rubber insulation with a 7mm wire?

Yes. The stock plugs are 7mm, and there is actually a TSB out for rerouting the wires to prevent arching. I switched to 7.5mm, and have never had a problem, but I followed the reroute steps anyway. I think someone posted a diagram of the correct wire routing once. I'll try to find it and post it unless someone beats me to it.

The accels are custom fit but it is a really easy job to do. Just lay them out then pull the wires off your truck one at a time, judge the length, cut the new wire to size and crimp on the end with the supplied tool. Nothing to it really.

On the subject of 7mm wires, they will arc. I bought a brand new set of NAPA street wires and within as soon as I put them on they arced to my heat sheilds. I took them back and got the Accels.
