Default 4WD problem...

Hi all, I have a question that I couldnt seem to find the answer to in looking through the forum threads.. I have a 2000 Ram 1500, 4x4. Im having problems with my 4wd. When Its engaged, it will lock in, then if I drive it will slam out of 4wd, then slam back in -really hard, it shakes the whole truck bad. Its like its slippin in and out. Ive taken the axle and the front diff apart, none of the gears look worn badly.. all LOOKS ok.. Any ideas why this is happening.. I cant figure it out... Vacuum leak?? Any help would be great.. Thanks!

Sounds very much like it could be a accuum leak in the central axle disconnect. The 4WD in the front axle works off of vaccuum. Chase those lines and see what you come up with.
