waterpump o-ring

Default waterpump o-ring

In the past year I have gone through 3 small water pump O-rings on the side on the water pump where the small 1/2 or 3/4 inch hose comes out and i dont know why it is eating them up so bad anyone have anyideas what i can do?

Only time i've seen them bad is if the pipe is not bolted in place. There should be a mount tab on the pipe to hold it in place.

you can also look for a nic in the bore... if there if anything in there to cut the o-ring, vibration will eat it up over time.

yea everything is bolted in fine and it looks smooth. the o-rings will work tell about 5,000 miles and the are craked and split and causes a leak so im thinking something in the coolant is eating it i dont know

does your motor run hot? 5k is a very short life for an o-ring...

Are you using just a plain black rubber o-ring or the white teflon type o.e. ring ?

You might get some of that paint on teflon sealer and coat the end that goes in before you install the next O-ring. I usually do that when I do a water pump on our trucks, not sure if it does anything really butI haven't had one leak yet. (Knock on wood.)
