How much torque can I put to my 1500 transmission? I think its a 36H or something like that.


98' 1500 Tow Package 5.9l 360 4X4

It's a 46RE.

No info on the 46 but the 47 is only rated for 450 lb/ft so the 46 would be less than that.

(Man, that seems low)

Any hard numbers would be pure speculation. I'm reading that the 46RH/E is an A518 which is a 727 (Torqueflite) with overdrive added. Considering that the 727 was put behind some of the most powerful muscle of it's era, I can't believe that it would rate THAT much less than the 47RH/E.

From the "Tell Me It Ain't So" file ... in 2002, Dodge replaced the 46RE with the 45RE in the 1/2-ton Rams?? They DOWNGRADED the tranny?? [>:]

So I should be alright if I run about 380 - 400 ftlbs? That's my current aim.

Can't see why not ... keep it cool (aftermarket cooler) and stick to (increase?) scheduled maintenance ... just to be sure.
