While stocking up at Dodge, I picked up some ATF+4, a new tranny fluid filter, and they sold me a ridgid plastic gasket for the tranny oil pan. They said the stock one is no good, and it should have this plastic one. Has anyone changed this? Should I be applying a seal with something like "gasket maker in a tube" to their gasket? Is this one of those projects that makes you curse and go crazy?? Thanks boys!

 

Get the actual rubber reinforced gasket. It's an easy, but messy, job.

 

If the gasket they have you is the one I am thinking of, it is a very good gasket, and easy to install.

 

Don't use any kind of sealer. There is no need for it because a tranny gasket will seal fine and the built up material from the sealer is one more place that could cause the gasket to leak.

Make sure you torque the bolts in at the correct specification.
