My wife insists her motorcycle uses more oil when it has synth than petro stuff - I am not sure she's right, but she has been about some things .
I agree with your wife.

Since switching to synth in one of my Harleys it definately uses more oil than it previously did. I'm fortunate enough to have two Harleys, and when I switched to synth in the other one believe it or not the bike actually ran hotter. I switched back to HD oil and never looked back on that bike, but I'm still running synth in my newer one. I'm seriously back and forth on the whole thing, but one thing I know for sure .... petro oil has been around for a LONG TIME and has proven to work if maintained correctly.

Just my 2 cents ...

Switched all my vehicles to full synthetic. 175,000, 140,000, and 95,000. None of them have developed a leak. Only thing I have noticed is that my Dodge has to be changed every 4000 on the button. If I go over that, the oil pressure guage will drop to zero when I brake.

Another thing, I also ran an chemtool in the oil to clean up the sludge. Then replaced the oil with synthetic.

I agree with Silver_Dodge. I switched my 2001 over (103K miles, NO leaks) to Castrol full synthetic and my truck developed 2 oil leaks the very next day ( front crank seal and oil pan gasket). So I guess they were about to go anyway...

Nah - just a brother and he's not like her. It's worth the time it takes to get the right mate - but you gotta have teh guts and perspective for a strong one.

Got lotsa excuses for this, but pride in it too: Once we both took an advanced motorcyle riding course and they didn't know we were a couple. We both passed, but the instructor suggested I take a special extra course then asked her if she was interested in becoming an instructor. She never tells that story, but I do. She wins sometimes, I win other times and make sure I do. We compete and enjoy it.

I started using Mobile 1 as soon as the engine was broke in. Have done this on all my trucks for the past 10 yrs or so. I am a firm believer in synthetic oils. About a year ago I was on a trip to the ranch when I noticed that as I went around turns in the highway my oil gauge would drop then when I straightened back up it would return to normal. While at the ranch I had forgotten about it until the trip home. I stopped at a service station to fill up and checked my oil. Didn't even register on the dip stick. Truck never ran hot, didn't notice anything other than the gauge moving on turns. It took 4 qts to get to the full mark. This happened before I new about the plenum gasket problem. I could not find a leak anywhere and just figured with my milage it was leaking around rings or valve guides. Well, this weekend went hunting. Pulled the trailer with the 4 wheelers on it. On the way home Sunday, my oil pressure dropped to just below the halfway mark on the gauge, about 35psi. I was about 65 miles from home so figured as long as I had some pressure I would just keep going. Engine temp was still normal. Got home unloaded truck and trailer, then checked oil and damn if it wasn't all gone again. Only took 3.5 qts this time but I am sure that because of the lubricity(spelling) of synthetic oil that I've been lucky both times. I am going to fix the plenum soon, but I will always use synthetic oil. I also use synthetic in all my 4 wheelers. They are all auto's with wet clutches and I've never experienced any problems with them. This is just my experience and I would not recomend anyone try it just for the hell of it. I do consider myself lucky and won't let it happen again. They say the 3rd times a charm. I don't want to find out it that's true! Jeff.

I am against synthetic oils. Here is why, these are just my experiences so dont hate me [:'(]

Had a 91 chev K2500HD with a 350. Motor was toast, and a rebuilt was installed. After break in period, I switched to synthetic and low and behold, the bearings went soon after. Same thing happened in my V-10, after break in period the truck got full synthetic and sure enough, same thing, the bearings went.

but thats just me. I will run my cheap oil.
