Default 360 auto tranny slipping

I have a 97 ram 2500 with a rebuilt Jasper auto tranny. I just purchased this truck under the understading that the transmission needed to be replaced it slips so much it barely moves. I pulled this dipstick on the fluid and it's almost black. Could I possibly get lucky by changing the fluid and adjusting the bands and make this thing work?

I would say - "not a chance". If the fluid is black - the clutches are burned up, and no amount of "miracle tranny fluid" will fix that. Get it rebuilt, or get another one. Some things to look for also are: Does the truck have a factory or aftermarket transmission cooler? If not - you should put one on it. Also, if the truck has a "rpm surge" or torque converter lock/unlock at cruise speed problem, replace the TPS. This thing went bad on mine almost from brand new, was never diagnosed by the dealer, and I am almost sure it caused my two transmission failures before 60k miles.

I'm not sure on the history of the truck it has almost 250,000 miles on it and the tranny won't grip enough to get it safely out of the driveway. Are there any good sites with pictures on how to remove the tranny. I've done an engine and tranny swap in a car, but never worked on a truck. I have the shop manual and the pictures are not clear enough for me to be certain on what I am doing.

One website....www.transmissioncenter.net/dodge.htm.....just put my new tranny in and man is it awesome. Special valve allows converter charge in park, red alto clutches, brass impregnated carbon fiber bands, billet aluminum servo's, custom made valve body, HD main shaft, and longer OD spring for quick positive engagement and a few other goodies. I have no more reverse buzz, lagged slow shifts, and also had a pan w/drain plug put in.

Bamory.. where did you get a tranny like that? I've been hunting all over the net and don't seem to be able to find much except Jasper and they seem to have a few problems of their own..... How much did you spend on it?b
