Default 4-Prong Trailer Light Connector

My 1997 Ram has a Drawtight that was on the truck when I bought it; however, there are no provisions for trailer lights. Although a lot of newer connectors are the 7-prong round plug style, I just want to rig mine up with a 4-prong rectangular connector. My question is this: Do I need to splice into the existing wiring (which I abhore doing), or is there a pigtail plug-n-play type adapter available?

You can get a quick connect t-plug setup for $15 or so...Thats how I did mine...It takes about 15 minutes to plug in as well.

yea. i bought mine at walmart. my 97 fullsize had the split conectors for the wiring harness. unclip the conector and clip the harness into it. comes with both sides. only thing was when i had my trailer plugged in, my blinkers were alot faster than normal. just look under truck and follow harness until you see the connectors.

it blinks faster with a traler because you have more bulbs in the circut if you want it to blink normal you need to put in heavy duty flasher but uless you always have the traler on there no need to worry about it

Thanks for the tips. I will search for one tonight at O'Reilly Auto Parts when I get some parts I've had on order.

Found one at O'Reilly for $29. I told my son (age 11) he can install it for me. He protested, saying it would be too difficult. I turned to the back of the package and pointed out that the box marked "Easy" was checked, meaning he could install it I think this will be $29 well spent.

When you need a part *now*, you deal with the price. Besides, there is a guy there who hooks me up with freebies and warranties out parts I have *a-hem* ****ed up. It's all good in my book.
