Default Circulating Heater/VAC?

Ok guys

Ok i am wondering if someone can give me the rundown on the VAC system in my truck (98 1500 5.2) mostley pertaining to the heater system. The reason i need to know about it is cuz well obversely I'm not too familiar with it...

always here is the storie i put in a circulating heater last winter (it splices into the return heater line and circulates and heats the coolant so it more thurolay heats your engine and when you start the truck you get warm air right away because the coolant is already warm) but for it to work the heater has to be left on full heat when the truck is off to allow it to circulate through the heater core. Well i put the heater in turned on the heat and left it but it didn't work like it was suppose to so i tinkered around with it for a bit (even put a post up last winter) and couldn't figure out why it didn't work so i just left it

so i was talking to a buddy on the weekend and he was saying that because the heater works off the VAC system that the heater will only open up when the truck is on

any ways if this is so is there anyway to hold it open...maybe put in an electric pump to create vacuum...im open to idea’s

Thats tough question. My only sugestion would be to put it right on the input of the heater core. I don't know how it could be "blocked off" with the truck off, only thing I can think os is that it can't get by the water pump when its not moving but I doubt thats the case. There is still room for coolant to get through even with the pump not spinning. [sm=confused06.gif]

yah i have it in the return heater line right now (thats where the directions sed to put it) i was thinking of just unhooking the heater core and just conecting the lines to one and outher and see if the heater worked properley, is so id hook the heater back up of course then put a jumper across the supply/return but of course with a valve so i can open it when the truck is off let everything heat up then when i wanna use the truck close the valve so my heater works...id look into getting an eletric valve at that point thow cuz, well im lazy and dont wanna half to open the hood everytime i stop and start. if i had an eletric one i could hook it to a keyed source then when the key was on it would open, key off closed...
