K&N makes the chrome air cleaner that bolts to the throttle body. I had it on my old ram a few years ago but I noticed the pdf file says it is for the 3.9 V6. Is this due to air flow of the air filter? I know it'll bolt right up, I just dont want to starve the motor of air and I prefer the looks of this over the cold air kit.

I dont know anyone using that exact set-up but I dont see why it wouldn't fit. The only thing I can think of is maybe a hood clearance issue. As far as chocking the motor, I think you would notice a loss in performance if you went ahead and installed it and tried it out.

The Ram Air Box setup ( http://www.ramairbox.com/kits.html) calls for a 3 inch tall filter, but RM_indy ( http://www.rm-indy.com/ramairinstall.htm ) says he was using a 2 1/4" tall K&N filter with good success. I think the specs on the unit your looking at says the filter is 2 5/16" so if it fits I really don't see a problem. You could always get a taller filter if you think you need to. If there's room for a taller one, that is. Let us know what you decide to do and how you like it. I haven't done anything with my stock air box yet and it's always nice to have a few more options to pick from when I get to it.

I know it will fit because I had on my old 97 a few years ago. I just didnt know if air flow wise the filter was too restrictive for the V8 motor. When I had it on my old 318 it didnt seem to restrict it. Just wanted to get an overall concensus with everyone's experiences.

You have to also get the drop base with it. I think it will fit with the 1.5" drop base. This was a popular topic of discussion over on another forum for awhile. RM_INdy has used one like this before, and seemed to have good things to say about it from the standpoint of his track et's. You should send him a PM.

It is designed with the proper drop to fit under the cowl. It is a tight fit but it snugs up under there perfectly. The threaded rod is angled like a stretched out S also so it goes in mint.

It even has the fitting for the rubber air hose to connect on the bottom side.
