Shifting problems
I have a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 automatic 4X4 with low miles (53,000). I bought it about a year ago. The previous owner kept complete records and apparently took very good care of it. I have had no previous problems other than having to have the 35" tires road force balanced to get rid of a tire vibration. I purchased a HyperTech III module to correct the shifting points and have the speedometer read correctly after I purchased the truck and it has worked fine. Two problems appeared suddenly at the same time recently, but I'm not sure how they could be related. When acelerating normally from a stop it seems normal to start with, but seems to drag, or lug or slip when trying to accelerate above 30mph or so. The RPM's jump up to about 4,000, but there's hardly any acceleration. Also, when shifting out of 4WD, it clanks very hard and shakes the truck. I'm guessing possibly a torque converter, servo actuator, or power train control module. I undid the hypertech programming and the problem persisted. (No error codes were reported when it was connected). Records indicate the transmission was serviced before I bought the truck. I don't know if or how the two shifting problems could be related, but it seems odd both would start at the same time. Any suggestions?
