cleaning yellow head lights?
You can read this thread. I've used polishing compound on two of my grandparents cars and it works pretty well. Doesn't last forever, but its sure is economical.
I used this stuff almost a year ago and my headlights are still clear. It comes with everything you need in one package and only takes about 30 minutes to do both headlights.

Can't beat polishing them.
I take 1500grit sand paper and sand off all the yellow or if there is a film peeling off I sand it all down. I cut off the alignment tabs and sand them smooth.
Take my mothers polishing ball and some 3m rubbing compound and remove the fine scratches from the 1500 grit, then polish them with Mothers or Mequires plastic polish.
They look almost as good as new, just put a new headlight in my truck and had to try and make the other one match so it didn't look crappy. I do this on on my cars with plastic lenses. Works well....

i used some rubbing compound and my dremel tool with the buffing wheel at low speed (don't burn it). it also worked on the plastic instrument covers om my old 76 chev truck.
After you're done cleaning/polishing them, could you spray them with clearcoat to help from them turning yellow again?

I wouldn't, clear coat will make them look bad when it starts flaking plus some clear coats look yellow'ish. It will work for a while, when it starts flaking you need to sand it all off and re apply.
I think 3m makes some clear protective film, someone else makes it also. You could put this stuff on the outside to protect the lenses from chipping and stuff. Check into this stuff, I don't even know how well it would work.
