check engine light does not come on
This is a secondary part to my fuel pump problem. I noticed that my check engine light does not come on at all for the lamp test when I turn the key. I worked within the past couple weeks as I had some O2 sensor issues from some really bad gas. Obviously this could simply be a burnt out bulb, but is there any other reason this could be happening that be be contributing to or a symptom of my fuel pump problems. I am grasping at straws here now as I really don't want to have to have this thing towed.
damn, sounds like a pcm problem... were you able to get codes out of it? did you check for a pcm fuse failure? hold off on the pump, this is probably causing your pump not to turn on...
PCM fuse ?? Any idea where this might be located ? I have checked every fuse that I can find, under the hood in the main box, and in the panel beside the drivers door.
Hi Ho Hi Ho it's off to Dodge we go. I gave up. Sounds like Steve is right, and it's the PCM.
No fuel pump powering up, no check engine light when key is on and no spark at all when cranked.
Why didn't I just replace the PCM myself you ask ? It seems the Dodge is not able to identify my PCM externaly with the numbers on it. Also there is a slight chance that the cam or crank sensor was fried instead and the PCM is non returnable if it turns out to be something else. I tend to think it is the PCM and not one of these other sensors, as if it were a sensor then I'd get a code at the check engine light right ??
Anyway there you have it.

Well, Dodge just called and confirmed that it is the PCM. The bad news is that my truck had a performance PCM in it and they no longer make that module for my truck. This means that I will now be driving a stock truck...... boo hoo snob sniff !!!! I have done a quick search and so far it seems that there is no computer preformance upgrades for the 96 Ram.
Any one have any ideas what is available for the 96 Ram 360 ?

Your Check Engine light doesn't come on? Are you sure you own a Dodge?
Mine comes on so often that I may as well not even have one. I've started ignoring it.
