Default need help! '95 1500 4x4 troubles

Hi. Since i bougth the truck a few years ago the 4x4 light never came on, 4-on-the go never worked, and I had to put it into neutral to get it into 4L. Last winter the 4x4 stopped working. The front drive shaft turns when its in 4H or 4L. one of the vacuum hoses on the transfer case was loose but i put it back and its tight. Iv'e never worked on the 4x4 parts before.does anyone know what it might be? thanks. Also, when the engine oil is warm and the truck is idling the oil light flickers and sometimes stays on. The dipstick says that 4 litres of oil is just right, 4.4 litres is too much. that doesn't seem right to me. how much oil should a 95 318 have?

You ALWAYS have to put it into N to get into 4L, its suppost to be like that

My money is on a vacume leak stll. Check the CAD on the front axle. Passenger side. If the light isn';t coming on that means the shift fork that connects the front axle shafts isn't engaging usually meaning a vacume leak. The lines might be cracked and dry rotted, so you might have to replace the lines all the way. This is a very simple problem that alot of people face so if you keep us updated we can tell you some other stuff, good luck.
