I got to replace my water pump (bad bearings) on my 94 Ram 1500 PU 4x4 5.9lt engine, automatic w/ac but no air pump. Any special tools or tips needed?
Thanks
Bob
You'll need the tool to take the fan off of the water pump (the one to hold the pulley while you turn the fan nut). Other than that it's straight forward. It's an easy job to do.
Take a big screw driver or pry bar and wedge it between the 2 of the 4 bolts on the fun. Then get a big adjustable wrench or anything that'll work for the big fan piece. Hold the screwdriver/prybar so the pulley doesn't move and twist the fan off. Its pretty tight, and it IS treaded regular. About all you need to know
mine was a tad weird, i had to take 2 of the bolts off the fan (theres 4 on it) and push them into 2 open holes on the belt pully(they did not thread into these holes, they just slide in) then stick a screwdriver between the 2 opposite the way of the pipe wrench i was using to unthread the fan from the pulley...like i said, weird but its the only way i found to get the fan off without having to pull the water pump off first. the first time i replaced my water pump i didnt remove the fan until the water pump was off. that sucked
