Default No Death Flash

Finally found the computer under the hood on the passenger side after looking tirelessly inside under the dash. Can I have a drum roll pleeease, THERE IS NO DEATH FLASH. But what does that mean, any comments welcome. Do I need to still buy a Superchip or go to B & G? What happened, why no death emblem? Thank you.

They only did it on some trucks, depends on how bad it pinged. Just retarded the timing a bit, which makes it sloooooow.

Thank you Socha_62. Went to a parts shop today and they want $400 to install the K&N Air Filter and another $400 for the Superchip or Hypertech. What do you think?

Hes right. $400 for something you can buy off eBay for under $200. One of the biggest things I tell people who aren't familiar with working on vehicles is to be confident and try new things. Your going to pay some guy $220 to bolt something on that literally takes 30 mins in your driveway with a screwdriver and maybe a few sockets. If you don't have a simple set of sockets and screwdrivers, buy some for probably $40. Your still saving almost $200.

As for the programmer, you can buy them online for just over $200, so why pay twice that much for some other guy to do it?

Your really just shooting yourself in the foot by paying somebody else to do work. Especially this REALLY simple work. The directions on ost things are very detailed, like the FIPK. Has lots of pics and great directions, you can't screw it up.

So do it yourself, both roughly $400, or pay somebody another $400 for very simple work. Were all willing to help and walk your way through it, its up to you if you want to throw away $400 though.

Yep Socha has definitely told me that. before I bought my truck in August of 05 I knew absolutely nothing about vehicles, couldn't even tell you what V8 meant sadly. and now I have installed the K&N FIPK and taken off my throttle body, cleaned it up and put it back on no problem, and done an oil change. As long as you're on this forum and browse every now and then I'm sure you will learn new things and be able to do stuff yourself with the help of the other members.

You all are right. I'm going search ebay for the basic mods, get some tools and give it a shot. Thank you.

Glad to help. Any problems just ask! [sm=bounceybounce.gif]

eBay usually has FIPKs for cheap, just mure they're real authentic K&N FIPKs, sometimes they put in small print that its a replica or something. www.truckaddons.com had the Hypertech for $224 or something like that a while back. Probably still the same price.

Thank you Socha_62, tried ebay last night and could not locate the K & N for 1998 and didn't look for the Fastman because didn't know exactly what Fastman to search for. I will explore for these two parts and any pointers, directions are welcome. Thank you.

I picked up my FIPK on ebay for just about $227 shipped. Just keep looking every now and then and you will find em at a low price. I don't think you will be finding any fastman throttle bodies on ebay (if that is what you meant). www.thefastman.com is where to find them. Dan "The Fastman" can help you out with any questions you have. I will be getting one from him within a few weeks.
