Default Help Purchasing Mods

Thanks to the advice of members I am going to start buying basic mods and attempt to install them myself, having never before worked on an engine. I am interested in getting better mileage and improved performance and not in speed, racing. Any advice concerning what I should start with and where to buy it will help greatly and be appreciated. Of course I have no tools either so help will be needed there too. Hopefully I will be able to buy and install the simplest more basic items first and work from there. The following parts I'm guessing to be on the list and help telling me where to buy them and in what order would be great; K & N Air Filter Kit, Power Wire, Intake Manafold, Superchip or Hypertech or B & G, Fastman Throttle Body, 180 Degree Thermostat, Catalitic Converter, Magnaflow Exhaust, M1 upgrade. Thank you.

yingchu777- I started out by modding my entire exhaust system. I wanted my truck to breathe easier so I started from there. My truck felt very sluggish and slow when I first purchased it used this past summer and it was all stock. Check out my sig on the bottom and I basically added my mods in that order. Love the performance gains I've received from these mods and with a slight improvement with mpg. These mods definitely compliment each other. The members on this forum are great and they have tremendous knowledge regarding aftermarket mods for the 2nd generation Rams. If you can do it yourself, that is great. It will save you a lot of money. What makes your wallet a lot lighter is the labor cost to install these mods by a mechanic. Good luck with your mods and keep us posted.

The easiest things to install yourself that will give you a pretty noticable gain is the FIPK and the Fastman. Both are easy to bolt on with basic tools 180* t stats a good easy cheap one but I'd wait a bit before you get that. It mainly helps againt ping and gives a little cooler air into the intake.

I'm still skeptical about the power wire. I have a really hard time believing that it gives that much power without hurting MPG. The power wire tricks the computer into thinking the air going into the engine is cooler, so the computer starts to dump more gas into the cyliders to try to warm it up/keep it warm. You can do the same thing by moving the Intake Air Temp (IAT) sensor from its factory location to the air intake tube. People have done this and they have all said they noticed a slight MPG loss I believe RM_Indy has a right up of diffrent locations and how much power it gained and MPG lost. Maybe its not him, but pretty sure somebody on here does

As for the exhaust, its a great thing to do! I love mine, sounds awesome and noticable power in higher RPM. I got a really good deal because of the shops screw up, I paid $245 for custom bend duals, 4" stainless Magnaflow tips, and a Magnaflow Exhaust.

A new intake would be awesome too, you could also mod the one you have, but not gonna lie, its a total pain in the *** I'd look into headers before the intake though, with the FIPK, Fastman, and exhaust your truck will get a big gain.

Hypertechs and Superchips, I still don't know about these. I've heard lots of people who say there awesome, and lots of people say they didn't hardly make a diffrence and weren't worth the money. In my opinion, do all the bolt ons listed, then have B&G do a CUSTOM flash for your truck and your mods, you'll see the biggest gains there.

Glad you are gonna try to do it yourself You'll be able to buy more mods with the money you saved ha. Were all willing to help when you get tuck too!
