97 Ram trouble code 15 speed sensor
Don't know how much this will help. Breakdown of OBD code 15. http://dodgeram.info/Engine-Gas/OBDI/Fault-15.htm
"I checked the voltage going to the sensor and according to the Haynes Manual it should be 8 volts but I only got a reading of 5.4 volts. The signal voltage from the PCM gave the correct reading of 5 volts."
WOW! We really are having the exact same problem. My voltage readings are identical to yours!
I picked up a computer for $50 to see if my computer was the problem. The computer is from a 1998; so my tach doesn't work now, andI still have a Code for the vehicle speed sensor. I replaced the sensor, but it didn't help. Tried my 1997 computer again, but I still have the code.
I guess we're down to chasing shorts. I hate electrical problems.

TMS Bill is right. We changed the wrong sensor. I found another sensor on the transmission that looked like the picture in TMS Bill's post. Once I replaced that sensor my Check Engine light went off (it took a few miles).
Since the book was wrong about which sensor was effected by a code 15; I'm assuming the voltages in the book are wrong as well. Since your readings were like mine, I'll assume everything is now correct.
Thanks TMS Bill!

Thanks KevinFoshee, TMS Bill and all others. I replaced the second speed sensor and now all seems to be OK. No more check engine light. I find it strange that the Haynes Manual did not mention this second sensor.
