Hot air probs in '01 Ram
I agree with timwag2001. I think if you mix your mixture more to 50\50 it will run hotter. I just remixed mine a little too antifreeze rich and mine is running cooler too. check and see what yours is mixed, you should never go more then 60\40 antifreeze\water, it startes to work against you then.
I just checked my 96 1500 and am having the same problem the return hose is hot but the hose going into the block of the engine stays cool.
Any suggestions on how to unblock my heater core.
I have heat sometimes and other times it is just a luke warm.
Thanks for the help.

timwang2001,
i checked my fan clutch, and it does everything it is supposed to, not loose and turns with some resistance.
dflyboy,
Well Friday when I got home from work, I checked the supply and return hoses for the heater core, both of them were just as warm as the upper radiator hose (couldn't get to the lower). I drained the whole system again. Removed the lower radiator hose and emptied the radiator and engine block, and heater core. I had all the fluid out of the system. I modified my backflush kit and backflushed just the heater core, and then forward flushed just the heater core. Both times nothing but crystal clear water came out. I even flushed out the water pump, to make sure nothing was clogged in there. Then I backflushed the entire system again, nothing but crystal clear water. Put everyhitng back together, filled it with the premix 50/50 antifreeze solution. Drove it around for a day. Then topped it off again. And guess what!? Nothing changed. I still have luke warm air. It's all of 14 degrees out now and it's hard for the luke warm air to keep the cab heated. I guess I am doomed to live with it, I am out of ideas.
Is there a valve somwhere that controls the amount of hot water going to the heater core? I didn't see anything between the engine and firewall.
Oh yeah, and the temp remains as indicated in the pictures above.

I have not had the heater in a Ram a part so I am guessing, but some heating systems just split outside air to go through the heater core or not. They control the temp buy putting more or less air through the core. If you truck has AC you might try setting it on MAX AC, which just recirculates the air in the cab, with the temp on max heat. I have used this to demist the windows quickly.
Good Luck.................Griz
Good Luck.................Griz
Last night on my way home, something weird happened, my heat worked. It sweated me out of the truck! But it was short lived at this morning, it was back the same ol thing, luke warm air. I followed directions that Griz gave me; he said to turn the dial to A/C Max and recirc the air. I did that, and the air got hot. Then I moved the dial to other vent options, and it stayed hot. Really hot, like I remember it should be. I tried that trick this morning to no avail. So I am guessing it has something to do with the venting flapper thingie. Now I just have to figure out why it's doing or not doing what it's doing.
well that sucks.... My trucks heat guage only goes as high as yours does but I can still get enough hot air outa it to warm me up and I live in central Canada where we were down to the -20... It must be the actuator thing sounds like you have it problem solved anyways, good luck and keep us posted please.
i am havinmy own problems with the heat i my truck aswell and simmilar to what you have going on. and the advice from evryone has been really helpful to me on identifing my problem. but i do have a question for any one who might know the answer to it. were and how would i access my blend door actuator.
