not for nothing but . . . maybe you should ask for someone you know with some knowledge to lend a hand. its not a hard job but you dont want to ruin your truck. or break the intake kit

erikb45, Good advice and I'll make sure not to break anything. Has anyone been reading the other post where thr Ram owner has taken out the K&N FIPK and installed a large round overhead air filter. What to you gentlemen think of that hookup? Thanks.

The idea of the FIPK is to draw more COOL air into the motor. The round air filter draws all its air from under the hood, including the hot air from the engine. Although I'm sure those who have done it disagree, you can't change the laws of physics regarding the fact that engines prefer a cool intake charge.
There may be some merit to the claim that the round filter draws in cooler boundary air from right under the hood and off the cowl area, but that is only when the vehicle is in motion, and I believe you'd need a speed greater than 40 mph to do that.

Personally, I believe you're obsessing over the details of installing your mod, but based on what I'm reading, you may be better seeking someone experienced to help in doing the job, or paying someone to do it. I would think the retailer who sold you the FIPK could recommend someone.

thats why I never read instructions. theres too much writing in them and they confuse you. who cares if you have a couple pieces left over. keep them for something else

It's not a problem when you have parts left over, it is when you run out of parts. I agree that craftsman are low on the quality, but for a DIY person they are perfect. They don't use the tools everyday like I do. I prefer snap on or matco, mainly snap on

You guys are funny about the parts. OK, if Snap-On or Matco tools comes along with the ones I need maybe we can do business.

Hi Shott! Thought you left us for greener pastures.....
I agree with you on the Craftsman tools. That is mostly what I have also, with a few Snap On and others mixed in. Break it - go 5 minutes up the road and get a new one. Not that I have broken much of their stuff....

I tried getting the 14" round air cleaner with a 3" tall filter in there, but I haven't been able to get it to fit yet. I think you are on the right track with what you have there. I am just one of those people that like to mess with stuff and see if I can get something as good or better for cheap. If I get the round filter to work, I will then be fabricating up an intake tube of some sort to get clean cool air to that filter from out side the truck....
