Tools, Buy Where
Have not found the tools needed to install K&N FIPK so any suggestions on where a good place to look is appreciated. The following tools are required; Pair of side cutters, 4mm allen wrench, 5mm allen wrench, 1/8 inch allen wrench, ratchet, socket extention, 13mm socket, 7/16 inch socket, 10mm wrench7/16 inch wrench, 5/8 inch wrench. Thank you.
Just about any store has reasonable tool sets. You can get a metric allen set, a US allen set, a ratchet set with metric and US sockets, a end wrench set with US and metric sizes, and an assortment of pliers/sidecutters, and screwdrivers, and you will be on your way. WalMart has some pretty large combination sets with a lot of these tools in it. then just get separately what isn't in the set. Tools are something you use for a lifetime - you can start now buying quality stuff like Craftsman (my fave) or just get cheap stuff to get you by. Whatever your budget will allow. A good cordless drill with an assortment of drill bits and screwdriver bits is a must-have also.
Thank you all very much. The Craftsman brand sounds good so I'll get a nice set. But concerning the instructions for the FIPK a few points have me confused and it will be a while till getting started since i'm not familiar with any of the numerous parts referenced. I enjoyed looking at all of your pics and trucks.

Kmart carries Craftsman tools because a year or so ago, Knart bought Sears...smooth move for a company who was on the verge of bankrupcy 3 years prior.
But I degress. You can buy a decent set of tools at most QUALITY retail places, I'll skip the "buy American" adverstising and simply state that you get what pay for. I consider Craftsman the "bottom line" of quality tools.
Obviously, you should buy a set that contains all the tools needed to install your FIPK. If thats a bit pricy, consider a basic set of sockets and wrenches, and pick up a set of pliers/cutters and Allen wrenchs (hex wrenches) to suplement it.
Finally, I've installed a FIPK, and reinstalled it a time or two after that! The instructions were a bit confusing, but it appears K&N printed these for 98 and older trucks, which utilize a different vacumn system for the fuel tank than 99 and up trucks. Is that your problem?

Skipping past the Evap references which I have not had time to look at under the hood, the purge control solenoid, AC line/heater hose, bolt that retains fuel rail bracket, 33. assemble the appropriate hose mendor and the provided vent hose, 34. cut the factory crankcase vent hose to the vent assembly, 36. attach the crankcase vent hoseassembly to the vent tube on the intake tube. The are a couple stages I will be stalled on. But before getting that far going through the earlier steps mostly concerning the Evap canister have to be dealt with. There is no rush in getting this done but I must study the engine and instructions to familiarise myself with what comes off and what goes back on. Thank you.
Ok, well you're actually ready to do the job, post up and I'll snap a couple of pictures regarding the hose adapter from the crankcase vent hose on the valvecover to the intake tube.
K&N wrongly assumes that you have a minimum of mechanical knowledge and the tools on hand. While this isn't a difficult mod to install, someone who has never done this may find themselves overwhelmed by all the written instrutions. The truck used for the install is an earlier gen 2 ram, which adds to the confusion.
I can also shoot a pic of my purge selenoid...btw, if you have the purge selenoid on the pass side, and that is the only selenoid there, you won't need to add all that bracketry...
