RE: waterpump
Any leakage around the shaft/seals? Any strange noises? What type of thermostat (use 180*)? Whens the last time you flushed the system? What did you fill it with? How is temp in your area? When the last time you changed oil? Any pinging d/t heat?
I wouldnt change it unless you know thats your problem. I would flush, refill using 50/50 with distilled water. Old oil will allow motor to heat up also. When you do the flush make sure you flush heater core also.
Also not hard to replace just gotta get everything outta your way.

no leakage; no strange noises... i dont think; stock t-stat (195*); most recent flush was by PO about 2 years ago; temperature ranges from 40-80 over past 60 days (its been goin a while); and oil changed regurally.
so is there a way to make sure its my waterpump before i replace it?

The only really way the water pump can go bad is for the pulley to fly off causing lots of bad things. When that happens the little holes start leak to signaling its going bad.
My bet is on the coolant and t stat. Swat them both out this weekend. Will be way cheaper then a water pump!
