problems with 98 5.2 V8 ram
i have a 1998 dodge ram 1500 5.2 V8.
last night on the way to work i noticed when i let off the gas the RPMs would drop way low, almost low enough to kill it but not quit...got to work shut it off and cranked her over again, would crank rite over run for a second and the RPMs would drop and she would die, only way to keep it running was to keep my foot on the gas,i let it sit for awhile went out and cranked her over, again crank rite up and i had to keep my foot on the gas but this time i let up and she stayed running, shut it off and did it again this time no gas needed she stayed running and idled normal...now on my way home while driving the truck died every time i let off the gas no matter if i was stopped, going down a hill or whatever, she would just die...got up this mornign went out started her up...no problems, idled fine, rev it up she would drop down and idle rite where it needed to be...i am clueless when it comes to working on a vehicle and have no idea what would cause this..some suggestion i have herd are the throttle control sensor is going out, fuel filter clogged{but i would think if the filter was glogged it would die when i gave it gas not when i let up}...any tips or hints or anything as to why this happend?...past few weeks i have noticed the RPMs dropping way low when i let up off the gas but it never caused it to die, some days it would do it some days it wouldnt...she would drive normal for a bit then start doing it again and i have also noticed that some times when i turn the key the RPMs will jump way up{never noticed that before} and again it wouldnt do it all the time......do yall think it is the TPS? being this close to the holidays im on a very limited budget and do nto have the time or money to take it in and have it looked at..hoping osmeone here has had this problem before and tell me how to fix it? thanks folks.

Did you check to make sure the IAC is actually working?

Is real easy. First remove the IAC from the throttle body. With it still plugged in turn on the ignition. You should see it move in, Shorten. I used a mirror to see it from inside the cab, or a buddy watch it. If there is no movement then replace the IAC valve. I just had similar problems and replaced my IAC and it now runs great.
