Default plenum leak question (a new question)

pinging is from pre detonation, right?
what about a leaking plenum causes pinging?
i would think a little oil leak in the intake would cause problems burning the fuel as opposed to pre detonation.
sorry to keep the plenum threads going.

Default RE: plenum leak question (a new question)

Oil in the air/fuel mixture reduces the octane and results in detonation ... not to be confused with preignition.

Good information here: http://www.lycoming.textron.com/main...ineDamage.html

It refers to aviation engines but the mechanics are the same.
