If you buy new tires at Costco, they fill them with Nitrogen, (green valve caps)! Great prices and free rotation and balancing for life of the tire! I get Michelins there for all of my vehicles!
My understanding is that Costco will nitrogen up your tires for free just because you're a member. Don't even have to buy the tires there.

I want to try helium. Maybe it'll make my truck lighter so i'll get better gas mileage.
I imagine that helium would leak down a lot faster than normal due to smaller molecule size ... dunno.

has anyone on here heard of replacing the air in you tires with nitrogen ???? I got new BFG today and the guy filled the tires with nitrogen for a few extra bucks , he said it is supposed to stay the same pressure even with temp change and help gas mileage ... he also said if i ever have a flat that he replaces the nitrogen for free , the cost was 3 bucks a tire
i work at the tirecenter at my costco, and thats all we fill tires with, is nitrogen. It doesnt expand or contract with heat as much as ambient air does. Ambient air looses about 1 lb per week, while nitrogen looses about 1/4 lb per week.

Pure nitrogen in tires doesn't support oxidation, so the tires won't rot from the inside.....
Dusty
Can't say that I have ever had that problem, except on old equipment that sits around for years and years. The vehicles I drive use up tires long before this happens.

Re: helium in tires ... that was the second time I read that postulated today. Someone was wondering if it would be a good idea if the IRL/F1 racers (where every 1/4 lb matters) did exactly that.

Sorry ... [&o]
