Towing specs Ram & Nomad trailer
I just purchased a 2001 Ram 5.2L 1500 4x4 31,000 miles on it. It does not have a towing package on it. I have a 29' Nomad trailer 6,700lbs. And was wanting to know what class hitch and how much should it cost to get set up? Will aslo need a brake control.....I tow this trailer already with my 01 5.3L Chev Suburban Z71. But would really like to use my Ram so i can take mine and the kids dirt bikes camping with us.
im not an expert at towing , but depending on the tongue wait of the truck you might want to get add a leaves for the rear. i would go with at least a class III , maybe find a setup from a ram with tow package at the junkyard. also makin it breathe a little better will help
The main thing that the tow package provides is a big, heavy-duty tranny cooler right out of the factory. It's almost the same size as the radiator itself, works wonders at keeping the tranny temps down. The other this is a big class IV hitch reciever with an 8 pin trailer connector. If i'm not mistaken, the class III is just the ball on the bumper whereas the the class IV is the actual frame mounted hitch. The main thing is tongue weight, because all the bumper is rated for is 500lbs trailer tongue weight.
