hey guys was wondering why people reccomend 3923's instead of 5224's for plugs by autolite i picked up the 3923's . but waitin for info b4 i put them in

 

they are good for about 5 hp and work just as well as the platnums. they also force you to change them earlier keeping your truck in better tune... I tried a bunch of different plugs and these were the best. Mopar cap & rotor btw...

5hp? over what? they are just regular copper resistors.

 

when you go to buy the autolite 3923's in a store (or do you get them online?) does it specifically say autolite 3923 or something else? because I've seen lots of different kinds, platinum, irridium, etc.

 

3923 is just the Autolite p.n. that you specifiy at Napa or wherever. They're basic copper plugs. These trucks don't like platinum or iridium plugs, all they do is detonate.

 

the oem plug I guess... I dont recall what it was compared against, someone test them on the dyno and whatever they were comparing them against didnt stack up.

 

just plain autolite's pn#3923 nothing fancy its just a different part number then what the book calls for

 

It is my opinion that the Autolite 392x series of sparkplugs became popular on Magnum 5.2/5.9 V8s because they have a 'old fashioned' short nose that has an effect like retarding the ignition timing.

Most of the praise for the 3924 and 3923 came from owners who had installed Mopar Performance PCM/Jet/HyperChips and found that the ignition timing was advanced a bit too much...and got some wide open throttle pinging.

The 392x reduces this with its short nose, which moves the spark farther from the center, farther from the hot exhaust valve, and more shrouded near the bore edge.

But the Autolite 3924 is also one of the cheapest plugs.
I have seen them on sale for as little as 50 cents apiece, which is undoubtably good value for the money, compared to $12 irridium tipped sparkplugs.
