My tranny is shot. Good reverse and first gear no third and overdrivesometimes, will shift into second. Any adviceI know I need a new tranny but can I put the tranny out of a 2500into my 1500 to beef it up. Also I will do the swap myself is there anything I should watch out for. like electronic shift?[&o]

 

Trannys are swappable. You've probably got a 46RH or 46RE (since you didn't include the year of your truck) unless you have a V6 in which case its a 42R whatever. You'll need to stay with the same control system (hydraulic or electronic ... based on year) butas far as "beefing it up" some 3/4 tons had the same tranny as the 1/2 ton ... diesels and V10s got the heaverone ... so it will depend on the donor vehicle as to which version you'll get.
