Default Collapsed Lifter

Ive had this ticking noise for almost a year now and im losing my mind. My engine hasnt had any problems so far and its ran great. Im going to take it to the shop here pretty soon, but how much would it cost to replace a lifter?

Is this a common problem with 01 ram's?

I have a lifter doing the exact same thing and I just rebuilt my engine. The damn thing ticks at odd intervals. I dumped some Marvel Mystery Oil in the crankcase in hopes of freeing it, but to no avail. I'm planning to upgrade to the 1.7 rockers and will install new lifters when I do so. If you know which lifter it is, just do it yourself.

YOU CAN ALSO SUBSTITUTE 1/2 QT OF TRANS FLUID FOR OIL . SOME TIME THE TRANS FLUID WILL GET IN THE LIFTER BETTER THAN THE OIL AND PUMP IT UP. I'VE DONEIT A COUPLE TIMES ON A FORD 2.9L V6 AND HAVE HAD GOOD LUCK.

try substituting the quart of MMO in there and see if it fixes it. if not, swap them all, they arent that expensive if you go with the stockers.. if you want to upgrade, the rhodes standard ones would be a good replacement... you would need adjustable rockers though...

I am getting ready to do the complete change of my roller lifters, pushrods, and Harland Sharp 1.6 Roller Rockers. Already have a performance cam so I decided against 1.7 RR's.

I am also pulling my timing chain and gears and installing the new chain tensioner. I have heard that this will eliminate any noise from the chain and make it last longer.

I'll take a few pictures of the work and post them when I am done. I'll also let you know what problems I encountered.

i threw some marvel oil in and it seemed to quiet the noise substantially, but that lasted onlya few weeks. [:@]

well a couple of other suggestions then... 1) use a heavier weight oil with the MMO or 2) swap you lifters when you
do your plenum pan fix (if it still needs to be done).

the better solution is to swap the lifters with rhoads liftersand go to adjustable roller rockers.

What weight oil do you suggest? i believe i use 5w 30 synthetic. actually what im thinking is swaping my 239ci for a 318sc or a stock 360 when my mileage gets up there. im at 80k right now. or i could just leave it be. we'll see.

try 20w-50 1st w/mmo and see how it does. if you end up having to swap the lifter, you can figure out which one has the problem... you'd have to yank the intake manifold and crank the motor until all the lifters are primed & pumped up, then you can see which one is not pumping up.

another Q I have is how long have you owned it? it could be that you have a lot of gunk on the inside of the motor and it still needs to be flushed out... how many miles has the MMO been in there?
