Default 180 Thermostat?

Hey all, just bought a 98 ram 1500 not too long ago and there were a few things done to it already. I got it at an auction, so talking w/ the previous owner isn't going to be possible. All warmed up, my temp guage only reads about 1/3 of the way. Would this possibly indicate that a 180 degree thermostat has been put in?

it could be...
start the truck and see if the hose that goes from the top of the engine to your radiator gets hot before the thermostat is supposed to be open. it could be stuck open

congrats on the truck... yeah it could be a 180 deg t-stat, IIRC that's about where mine stopped. if it doesnt throw a code for too cool of coolent temp then it's most likely a 180...
