1998 Ram Van 1500 Gas Mileage
My van has ony 24,000 miles on it so far.
I need to drive it from NYC to Phoenix Arizona.
That means I need to calculate exactly how much it will cost in gasoline.
What is the MPG for my van and how do I figure it out.
I forgot cause I'm getting old and going senile.

fill up your tank. dont over fill it.set your tripometer back to zero -drive a long distance the longer the more accurate. fill up the tank again the same way you did the first time. take the mileage driven and divide it by the gallons used (the amount thats on the pump) thats your mileage
Afaik, you'll be looking at spending $350- $400 on fuel, and it's far cheaper, easier and faster to fly (try Jetblue.com).
But, if drive you must...
First, you can glean a pretty good idea of your vehicle's mpg by selecting your exact model from this list:
http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/bymod...0_Pickup.shtml
Then, go to mapquest.com and mapquest your trip to figure out your miles.
Roughly speaking, you're likely looking at 2,500 miles give or take.
Use those figures to gain how much fuel you'll use.
This may also be of assistance (as may, of course, the rest of the epa's fuel econ site):

OK! Thanks to both of you!
I am afraid it will cost far more than $400 in gasoline.
What happened is my Dad says it will cost $2000 in gas to go 2500 miles from NYC to Phoenix Arizona!
I really dont know.
Filling up the gas tank and driving west across New Jersey is not a cost effective way of rehearsing my trip costs.
This Dodge Ram Van 1500 is in good condition and has the smallest mileage (24,000) of any van made in 1998!
I should have no problem except gasoline expenses.
I need my van to drive around in.

Something doesn't make sense here...
Either your dad didn't give his answer a lot of thought, or maybe he did lol!
Because if two thousand dollars over 2,500 miles doesn't ring any bells...

That's hilarious! For $2,000.00 you can buy 869 gallons of gas (at $2.30 a gallon). If it took you 869 gallons to go 2500 miles you would be getting 2.87 miles per gallon. Sell that POS!!
