Over the holiday i got a M8274 warn winch. I hear it is a pretty good winch. I am looking for some help in mounting it to a 1995 1500 Ram. I looked a bit and didn't find any mounting brackets. Do I need to make my own< could i buy one? has anyone put a M8274 on a 2nd gen ram. let me know

 

Unfortunately there's not a ton of options for the stock bumpers on these trucks. You could make your own bracket, or, check out http://www.gowarn.com. I think the only winch mount that fits our truck is the Trans4mer mount which gives you the basic winch mount with the option of adding brush guards, light bars, recievers, etc.

 

If you want to spend about 500 bucks only I will use these guys.. they are awesome and less money than other i have seen http://www.kenmtn.com/

come on down. hope your bringing your truck - lots of mountain roads around there, unfortunately there are more closed roads than open. N. Ga is a very good school, not far from the house. when you get down here let me know. Several of my kids friends are there. it used to be all military, but is now about 1/2 and 1/2 (=girls). If you're doing military you'll be interested in the Army Ranger Camp about 10 mi north. i see them running across the mtn's all day and all night. they do training excerises on the public land and are completely focused on what they're doing. so we'll be sitting or standing in camp or the creek fishing and drinking and they'll come charging through like you're not even there. we'll try to give em something to eat or drink but they won't accept it. i guess its against their training rules.

Do they make a mount for your hitch receiver? I can think of many times in the mudd where that would have come in handy. When I had an 84 toy with front and rear lockers I always managed to get an extra 25-30 yards (as apposed to open diffs)into the muck before I was stuck. A winch on the back would have come in handy.

LMAO...have you seen one in person. They're huge, fugly. They do have a fast line speed and are well built, but an 8274may be alittle on the weak side for a full size truck.I have seen 8274s stall and burn up trying to pull a very stuck full size with a broken drive shaft. It depends on how stuck you are though.Remember, you only get the rated line pull on the last wrap of the drum. They are great for Jeeps if you can stand how ugly they are.

You could look for a custom bumper that can swallow that pig, but if you really intend to use it, I'd look for a heavier rated winch, at least a 12,000 LBS with 3/8"diameter wire. You can double the power of the winch with a ****** block, at the expense of line speed, but then if you're that stuck, can the 8274's 5/16" diameter wire hold up to the extra strain. Winches are excellent tools, but are wicked dangerous at the same time. The general rule is get a winch rated 1.5 or 2 times the weight of your vehicle, keep it well within the rated tollerance,wrap the line with a tug strapand stay out of the way of the line when pulling. Hell, I've put my hood up in front of the windsheild when pulling really hard just to have something else between me and the cable if it snaps.
