Default What model of transmission is in my 94 Ram?

I have a 94 Ram 1500/ standard cab/ 3.9L V6/ manual 5 speed. Does anyone know if this truck has an ax15 or a nv3500? I have seen reference to both in the threads. Maybe even a different model number than I have sugggested?

I was replacing the clutch, and dropped a significant amount of fluid from the rear output shaft after pulling the driveshaft. Many threads on the 2nd generation Ram forums are calling for mopar fluid ONLY for the nv3500. I am trying to figure out what fluid I can safely use. I am not sure which transmission I have. Theclutch kit I received from O'Reilly auto parts was p/n NU1972-1, but it doesn't really say what model of tranny I have.

The parts guy at the local Dodge dealership couldn't pull up the 1994 RAM specs on his computer. The shop guy at the dealership looked on his computer and couldn't find anything either. The shop tech then invited meback to the shop, and we went in to the back room where the paper manuals were kept and found something for an 95 AX15 trannythatrecommended a 75W-90 gear oil.

To further complicate matters, there are GL3, 4, and 5 gear oils out there. I have heard if you put in a GL-5 where it is not called for, it may mess up your synchro's due to the GL-5's "extreme pressure" additives.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

ive got a haynes manual that says the nv-4500 tranny has the id tag attached to the PTO cover and it says the typical manual transmission id number is located on the side of it on the drivers side.

according to haynes vehicles equipped with a manual tranny use either an nv3500 or an nv4500. the nv3500 is used with 3.9 and 5.2 engines and the nv4500 is used with most 5.2 and 5.9.
