transmission help
What you might do is check what transmission you have vs. what transmission you'll be putting in...
Model, that is.
If they're the exact same tranny it should be no problem.
If they're not, it might fit, it might not.
There's no way for me to know which is what, as several models get put in those trucks.

The 2001 medium duty transmission used was the 46RE (the E means electronic control). I am not sure what tranny was used in 95 but it might have been the 46RH (H= hydraulic). I DO know that the 94-97 trucks used a gear in the tailshaft to transmit vehicle speed data to the PCM while 98-01 used the RWSS. There should not be an issue of 360 v. 318.

The speedometer is reading FASTER?? That's unusual ... only thing I can think of is that you've got lower than stock gearing in there. Did you get your truck new? If not ... could the prior owner have re-geared to 4.10's or something?

alright. ill check it out. the only reason i was wondering is because my 2nd gear is slipping, and i could rebuild it myself for about $600, but i found a wrecked truck that is a 95 and the transmission is suppose to be perfect. so im might go ahead and buy it and see if i can do the swap.
If you can find the build sheet on the 95 you can go here and run it.

If not, you can email Chrysler with the vin # and they can tell you. I don't believe you can swap a hydraulic shifted tranny for an electronic one, unless they are the same year, because of the computer systems.
