Underhood insulating pad
My truck has an insulating pad clipped to the underside of the hood ( 98 2500 5.9V8). Is the pad there to prevent engine heat from damaging the paint?[sm=smiley25.gif] Did they all come this way? I figure its there to suppress noise. Tom
ive got an 02 2500 with no pad so i would assume just to cut down noise.i could be wrong but i would think the motor wouldnt produce enoughradiant heat to damage the paint like the sun would in an openparking lot on a 100degree. day but donthold me to this
This is probably BS, but when I bought my '99 4Runner the salesman told me that it's there to limit noise and also to help extinguish under-hood fires. I guess the plastic tabs are supposed to melt and allow the cover to fall over the engine and snuff-out the fire. Seems like it would hold true for Dodges as well.

mine came off while i was mudding and i didnt know it had broken off. when we ran out of washer fluid and went to a nearby lake to replenish the window washer, the hood pad was all tangled up in everything, was a huge mess., plus it was soaked in muddy water making it super heavy and when removing from engine compartment it just tore apart into hundreds of pieces.
soo... i think they suck and everybody who ever decides to do any mudding should remove theirs.
