rule of thumb is fuze any powered leg of a circuit 6" or less from the power source (batt.)(thats why the main PDC is always near the batt.)but for a 2 amp draw i wouldnt worry about it..

I was able to gain access behind the power outlet by removing the flip down cup holder. The wires for the power outlet are enclosed in wire loom and it was getting dark so I didnt have time to trim some away to get access to the wires. Does anybody happen to know which wire I need to tap for the hot? I dont have a meter to test for voltage and I dont know what color the wires are that are back there yet until I get home from work.

i dont have my cupholder in so i just ran outside and checked mine. assuming that 99 and 01 used the same wires, you should have a redand white and a black and orange. my pos is the red and white.

So are the red and the white both constant hots? I thought there would have been only been 2 wires (a positive and a ground) I wonder why there is 4 wiresfor the power outlet. Could possibly the cig lighter and the power outlet share the same wiring harness and two of those wires are for that? That would make it one switched hot, one constant hot, and two grounds. Anyway I'm just guessing, thanks for checking!

Install is done. Tapping into the power outlet worked out perfectly and XM receiver is powered on and receiving a signal. Thanks everybody for your help.
