Default Fuel sending unit??

Hi, my 97 dodge diesel appears to have a bad sending unit. I fill it up and the gauge works great. After about 50 miles, it drops to near empty. I've heard it is the sending unit in the tank (which appears to be a common issue). Any fixes other than the $$ at the dealer???
Thanks

Replace it.

Mine has been brokenfor about 5 years now. I use my trip odometer as my fuel guage. It hasn't stopped the forward motion of my truck yet, so I've never bothered with it.

I have no fear doing it on diesels......lol. I don't mess with that gasoline TNT. One spark dude, and it's over.
