Default Fuel Syncronization 98 2500

I am not satisfied with the fuel economy or power of my 98 2500 5.9v8 4x4. I am only getting 12mpg hightway (was 11 before I flashed it with hypertech) which in a well tuned machine ought to produce enough power to get my attention. I was wondering if the fuel injection system were not in synch - would it cause poor economy and power? Checking and adjusting fuel injection synch requires the DRB scan tool and careful adjustment of the distributor. I presume DRB is the dealer tool. Is there a shade tree mechanic tool or process that I can use to test or adjust the synch or do I need to see the dealer to get this checked out. ?? My bother inlaws 4.6 F150 leaves me in the dust and it is hurting my feelings! thanks - Tom

is it all tuned up? how's your o2's and cat? is your air filter clea?. tire pressure where it should be? have you cleaned your injection system? fouled spark plugs can be a bitch also.

give it a good tune-up im sure it'll come around.

Ok I did the following: New O2 sensor, tires fully pumped., 2 bottles of Techron through a month ago, new, rotor, cap, plugs and wires. I think the air filter was new when I bought it, but I didnt do it myself. Converter is an unknown. I presume it is ok - I have not heard any rattling. I was thinking of replacing it on the merits.
