Default Fuel Filter Help

Ok, I know im a total retard for not doing this earlier but I need to replace the fuel filter. Im not sure where exactly its located and i cant find a site that shows a picture of its location. How much time would this take to change and am I safe picking one up at discount or advance auto?

01 1500 v6 3.9L 5spd

thanks

fuel filter sucks. the filter and pump are one assembly and is inside your gas tank. you can either drive the truck untill youve got no gas, and drop the tank. or you can get a bunch of friends and take the bed off. whatever works best for you.
dont do it for maintanance purposes. only do it when it starts to get messed up.

had to replace fuel level sender (which is also on pump assembly): drove fuel down, made all the disconnects. got under truck adjacent to tank. loosened two bolts securing the two straps that hold tank. I first tried a floor jack, but quickly found it was simply gonna fall off the jack, so I put my legs and arms under the tank, and acted as a human jack. I am no weight lifter, and I could do it.

The tank is rectangular, and all the openings are at the top, so no gas splashed or sloshed or leaked.

I installed the tank the same way. leverage of legs. and arms. it can be done. it was done.

it was still a b1tch though.

good luck

you generally dont replace the filter on the in-tank setups... it is more of a screan than anything else. If you think you have a fuel problem, slap a fuel pressure gauge on there and see what it is doing. you should have 49psi +/- 5psi IIRC, check the manual to verify. if you have less than that, the pump is not able to keep up and you should think about swapping it before you get stuck.
