Tim ... I wasn't really singling you out. It's just that when someone asks what they should look out for when buying a Dodge ... the answer always includes transmission. How we got from the 727 (that had no trouble handling the power from a 426 Hemi or a 440 Six-pack) to these that are supposed to be the same basic design ... I'll never figure out. When I first got my truck (9 years ago) I was researching problem areas and all I read about was how bad the brakes were ... never a word about the tranny. I've got 90k+ on this one (driven pretty hard) without so much as a fluid change ... no band adjustments ... I checked the fluid level about 6 months after I got it and that's the last I touched it. The reason is I hate messing with things that are working well. Just ask thunderz: ( https://dodgeforum.com/m_692109/tm.htm ) ... a simple band adjustment. Should work better ... now it slips. I believe if it's not broken, don't fix it. I'll wait until some problem rears it's head and THEN worry about it.

Couple things to also check....tranny line check valve, and cooler might be plugged. just an idea or two.

Whoa...someone put Dexron II in thier Ram....OOOOOOOOOPPPPSSSSS!!
Kiss that tranny good bye! ATF+4 only in newer rams. You'll need to change the fluid for sure BEFORE you can diagnose it!

Yeah ... that's my habit, too. When something wears out or breaks, I always want to upgrade to the biggest, toughest (most expensive [:@]) replacement I can find ... on anything I fix (not just my truck).

I think it's a psychological problem.

three weeks ago my 27' sony decided to take a dump(over 20 years old). As luck would have it I had time to replace it with a 42' lcd before the superbowl. The play-off were nice to watch too.

My problems sound like everyone else. I have a 98 Dodge 1500. I recently had the trans rebuilt. After 30 days, it started to shift from 1,2 and 3 but not overdrive. Once I stopped it would not shift out of first. I took it to someone who replaced the sensor and govenor relay. Still the same. They check the pressure before driving, ok, after it stuck in first, no pressure registered.

The only thing I can think of after the rebuild is I had to pull a trailer with about 5000 pounds but it pulled fine. Some thought the computer, your thoughts?

That a lot of shops don't know what they are doing. Just seems like I'm hearing way too many of these I just got my tranny rebuilt and it's acting up stories. I'd go with a new one instead of a rebuilt one. Well, I did that and just got mine built from there.
