New guy here with a few questions
127,000 on mine and counting. I tow a 25 foot camper w/ 4 people in the truck and seem to have enough power. I should be towing a gas station with. average fuel milage while towing is about 5mpg. The engine has been good with only minor repair and regular maint. The biggest troubles i've had have been with the trans. This is the weak point of the Ram truck. As far as the v10 seen some head problems but other then that nothing major.
I have read a few posts regarding heads on the V-10 and cracking. Is it a design flaw that causes the head to crack or is it more of the way the operator works the engine that affects it? Or is there some other issue causing it?
havent heard of the v10 heads cracking, it is common however with the v8's. the best preventive measure is a 180 deg t-stat IMO. v8 heads are pretty easy to swap and there is a new casting out there that is pretty affordable (around $725/pair built, ready to bolt on). I still say go the 5.9 route. you can easily build it to exceed the v10 power and there is far more out there for it.
I could have very easily confused the head cracking between the V-10 and V-8, I have read so many post over the last few days. Are those new heads from MOPAR or some other after market such as Edlebrock?
