Default Front Sway Bar Diameter:UPDATE: Bushings installed

I'm going to be changing my front sway bar and link bushings because they are shot. Anyone know what the front swaybar diameter is on a '99 1500 4x4? I think it is either 30mm or 32mm. Service manual did not have the spec that I could find and I can't go out an measure it at the moment.

It should be the 32mm or 1 1/4", I think the 30mm was used on the early two wheel drives. My 98 was the 32mm just replaced the links and bushings Autozone $8.99 ea.for the bar to frame bushings and $39.99 for the end links

the sway bar itself should be bad... what makes you think it is? its usually the end links that wear out and cause slop. swap the links for urethane ones and it'll be good as new.

What type of bushing you plan on? I am planning to do this next, was not sure whether to go with stock rubber, or the neoprene.

you'd want the polyurethane bushings... stocks will distort too much too fast.

Steve,
Your right, it's mostly the link bushings that are bad, but the Energy Suspension bushing kit I am looking at includes the sway bar frame mounting bushings too. Thought I might as well upgrade to poly on those while i'm at it.

Bamory,
I'm going with the Energy Suspension polyurathane bushings. Probably get them from Summit.

OH, ok, now it makes sense... the way I read it, it sounded like you were going to change the bar... the bar/frame bushings also suck and should be urethane for sure. it'll make a new truck out of it.

+1 on the urethane bushings. One of the first mods I did on my truck. Makes it feel like it's got a thicker swaybar in there.

I put in my new bushings tonight Took about an hour total, and that was taking my time. It's dark outside now, so I don't have any good pictures of them installed on the truck (will try to get some tomorrow), but here is some pics I took while I had the sway bar off for comparison. Like I said, my old bushings were shot. I haven't driven it yet to see if it feels different, will do that in the morning. I went with red since my springs, shocks boots, and steering stabilizer are all red (Skyjacker).
